President: The duty of the Ukrainian authorities is to prevent the scenario of disrupting the elections

Petro Poroshenko added that it is also important whether the voters give up their state to populists and puppets of fugitive oligarchs, making all the suffering in the struggle against the aggressor and the deep crisis that arose from the war absolutely useless.

“Only two weeks separate us from voting on March 31. But one who believes that it is only the day of the election of the Ukrainian President is mistaken. If it was so simple, would the emotions be running so high? Would there be so much dirt? Would there be attempts to provoke the street and bloodshed?” President Petro Poroshenko said during a conversation with the residents of Kyiv.

According to him, everyone is very well aware of the stake of this year’s elections. “Can we maintain real independence from Russia? Can we resist the attempts of the Kremlin to conquer Ukraine again and make it a part, or an empire satellite? Will Ukrainians allow the revenge of pro-Russian forces and the victory of candidates comfortable for Russia in the presidential and parliamentary elections – both explicit and hidden? Will Ukraine continue its path to the European Union and NATO? For it is only being their full member that you can guarantee true independence and security of the country,” the President said.

Petro Poroshenko added that it is also important whether the voters give up their state to populists and puppets of fugitive oligarchs, making all the suffering in the struggle against the aggressor and the deep crisis that arose from the war absolutely useless.

“We have to give an answer to these questions during these two weeks and on March 31. The whole Ukrainian nation will have to answer through a broad public debate … And every citizen will have to answer in front of the ballot box in the polling booth,” he said.

The President stressed: “We know the stake of this year’s elections. And our eternal enemy also knows. He is disguised. He is able to mimic. He will try to wear different masks, creep into favour”.

He noted that this was demonstrated during the recent weeks when the attempts to communicate with voters were tried to bring to the format of street disturbances. “This is not even a dirty electoral technology. This is an attempt to jeopardize the holding of the elections, to disrupt them. And this is definitely not a Ukrainian scenario,” the President said.

“The duty of the Ukrainian authorities is not to allow this scenario. Its authors and customers, sponsors and performers provoke us at all cost to use gross physical force. But just because we are strong, we will not give them such a gift,” the Head of State said.
