President Petro Poroshenko on Ukraine TV channel has outlined successful steps in the implementation of reforms and the revival of the country’s economy. Petro Poroshenko stressed that economic growth must necessarily be tangible for every Ukrainian.

“Ukraine has not just revived, Ukraine has created a new army. It is the army, not the signed paper, that guarantees the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of our state,” Petro Poroshenko said.

The President also stressed that the state platform was ensured to protect the Ukrainian language. “Nobody forced anyone (to speak Ukrainian – ed.). We protect the rights of other national minorities to speak their own language. But it became fashionable. When you turn on Ukrainian radio, when you turn on Ukrainian television, when you open a book – you definitely will find the Ukrainian language there,” he said. “I am proud of the fact that this is a powerful foundation,” Petro Poroshenko added.

The Head of State also stressed that Ukraine had received the Tomos of autocephaly of the Orthodox Church.

He noted that on the issue of moving our country to the European Union, the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement was concluded, the agreement on deep and comprehensive free trade area was concluded, the European markets for Ukrainian goods were opened. Ukrainians got the right to travel freely to the EU countries with the introduction of the visa-free regime.

“We have created a new Ukrainian school. Ask first-graders about the radical changes. Now it’s about creating rural medicine, telemedicine,” Petro Poroshenko said.

The President also recalled that over the past five years a fundamentally new system of public procurement had been created, Ukraine had reached energy independence from the aggressor country.

“I can speak of the real changes that have not been taking place in our country for 23 years for a long time. And I am pleased that all international experts, the IMF, the International Finance Corporation, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the G7 firmly insist that Ukraine had made more reforms over the past 5 years than in the past 23 years,” the Head of State said.

At the same time, the President noted that among the things that we had failed to achieve over the past 5 years, was the restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine. “We failed to free Crimea. We failed to free Donbas. Although we freed two-thirds of the occupied Donbas,” he said.

According to Petro Poroshenko, only a direct armed aggression of the regular troops of the Russian Federation prevented our troops from liberating the whole Donbas.

The President also noted that in the issue of poverty reduction, the state had just received an opportunity and resources to increase pensions and other social benefits. “Only now, after a powerful reform package. When economic growth resumed, when the foundations of statehood were created, we are implementing a decisive offensive against poverty,” he said.

He stresses that the fight against poverty is a program that consists of two parts. According to him, there are immediate steps that can be taken now, based on the fact that the Ukrainian economy has been growing for 12 consecutive quarters. “A strong foundation has been created, some funds have been accumulated in the Pension Fund. That is why the first ones who need our help are pensioners. Because they were affected the most,” the President said.

He noted that the minimum wage and average wage grew, while the increase in pensions was the least.

Petro Poroshenko says it is necessary to make 3 powerful steps to combat poverty. First, indexing of pensions. The decision was made in 2017 that from March 1, 2019, pensions will be indexed. “I emphasize that 5 million pensioners have already received indexed pensions,” he said.

This is accompanied by compensation – payment in the amount of 2410 UAH for those pensioners who receive the lowest pension.

“Every year we will raise, index pensions. And the growth of the economy should be reflected in the wallet of a pensioner, a teacher, a doctor, a student in order to provide effective steps in the fight against poverty,” Petro Poroshenko said.

The President especially noted the decision to raise the payments for every third and the next child in large families.
