After opposition’s win in Ankara, municipality starts giving vehicles to AKP mayors: CHP spokesperson
Öztrak stressed that Ankara mayor-elect Mansur Yavaş would not start firing people at the municipality due to political grievances between the AKP and the CHP.
Main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) spokesperson Faik Öztrak on Monday said they heard rumors that the incumbent Ankara Metropolitan Municipality administration had started giving official vehicles to district mayoral offices that were won by the ruling party after the opposition alliance took Ankara’s top mayoral job.
The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality had been in the hands of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) since 2002. Melih Gökçek, the longest serving Ankara mayor, was in office between 1994 and 2017.
After Gökçek’s resignation at the request of AKP management, Mustafa Tuna, another AKP member, was named mayor by the city council.
Öztrak stressed that Ankara mayor-elect Mansur Yavaş would not start firing people at the municipality due to political grievances between the AKP and the CHP.
