President met with the widow of US Senator John McCain

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko met with widow of US Senator John McCain Cindy McCain, who is in Ukraine as part of the election observation mission of the International Republican Institute.

Petro Poroshenko noted the historic importance of Senator McCain’s heritage in establishing and building a new independent Ukraine.

Petro Poroshenko told Cindy McCain that in the near future one of the streets of Kyiv would be named after Senator John McCain – a great friend and advocate of Ukraine.

Important attention during the meeting was also paid to the ongoing Ukrainian presidential elections.

It was commended that the first round of presidential elections was free and fair, and Ukraine convincingly demonstrated high standards of electoral race and political competition.

During the meeting, the parties noted the importance of the immutability and sustainability of the course of reforms and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine. They also underscored a solid international support for Ukraine in the issue of internal transformation and restoration of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
