Kütahya Eti Gümüş, Turkey’s only silver refinery and the biggest in the Middle East, has halted operations 15 years after its privatization, Turkish media reported on Monday.

The factory laid off 950 employees without paying them their last three months’ wages or compensation.

Main opposition Republican People’s Party’s Kütahya deputy Ali Fazıl Kasap said the factory had been suffering from the privatization policies of the government and the worsening economy.
