President Petro Poroshenko stresses that Ukraine has determined its path and the task of moving resolutely towards the EU and NATO.

“Our task is to move forward resolutely. Forward to the European Union. Why the EU? This is the rule of law, justice, democracy, freedom and ultimately the living standards. Look at how workers, pensioners live in Europe, and look how they live in the zone of Russian influence, in the occupied Donbas, Abkhazia, Ossetia and Transnistria. That’s the answer to the question where we should go,” the Head of State emphasized during the conversation with residents of the city of Oleksandriia in Kirovohrad region.

He added: “NATO is security. Bringing our boys and girls home from the frontline to parents, wives and men, to their children. NATO is security on our streets. These are absolutely clear standards for the police, the National Guard, for everyone. Everyone should feel safe and there should be order in the country. And we will do it”.

The President emphasized that over the last 5 years, thanks to reforms, a solid foundation was built, including the restoration of the army, the conclusion of the Association Agreement with the EU, the visa-free travel, the Tomos, gas independence.

“We are closer to the EU and NATO than ever … Reforms bring their first results. We have definitively determined our path – the path of development. We are on our way to the EU and NATO. This is the path of breakup with the colonial past of Ukraine, with the Russian yoke, the Soviet yoke,” he emphasized.

The President stressed that in 2023 it would be possible to apply for membership in the EU and get a NATO Membership Action Plan. “Why 2023? Because there is a clear program and a plan on how we must reform the country in order to meet the criteria necessary for joining these alliances,” he said.

The Head of State stresses that the struggle for Ukraine’s independence continues. “Putin’s plan has not changed – he does not want Donbas and Crimea. He wants to include the whole Ukraine in the Russian Empire. We are those who can prevent this,” Petro Poroshenko said.

The President separately noted the opening of the second frontline aimed at overcoming poverty. According to him, Ukrainians have to feel economic growth in their own wallets. It is for this purpose that the monetization of subsidies, indexing of pensions and payment in the amount of 2410 UAH to pensioners, who receive minimum pensions, was introduced.
