Turkey’s former top judge criticizes AKP for betraying party values
Former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu also recently criticized the latest developments in his party in a 15-page statement.
Former Constitutional Court President Haşim Kılıç on Thursday harshly criticized the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), saying that the party has betrayed its original values of law and morality, the Sözcü daily reported.
Kılıç, who retired in 2015, attended the “Contribution to Fair Competition” awards night hosted by the Competition Association.
Speaking at the event, Kılıç said the ruling party has changed the regulations of Public Tender Act at least 186 times, adding that it had distorted both positive law and morality.
“Unfortunately, our friends who gained power by saying ‘law and morality first’ have betrayed both law and morality,” he was quoted as saying by Sözcü.
Kılıç is known to have conservative leanings in politics, and his remarks were interpreted by the Turkish media as an extension of intra-party criticism that emerged after a loss in local elections.
