Ukraine counts on Sweden’s assistance in restoring infrastructure, particularly in Donbas, as stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“Today, I have addressed Mr. Prime Minister with a request for further assistance of Sweden in restoring the infrastructure, especially Donbas infrastructure,” the Head of State said following the negotiations with Prime Minister of Sweden Stefan Löfven.

The President also stressed that Ukraine and Sweden shared the same understanding of the challenges to European security.

“We are grateful for the continued support of Sweden for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and for a clear position on maintaining and continuing sanction pressure on the Russian Federation,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

For his part, Stefan Löfven stressed: “We condemn Russian aggression in eastern Ukraine and Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea”.

According to him, Sweden appreciates the efforts Ukraine is making to resolve the military conflict in Donbas.

“Ukraine has shown willingness to compromise, and now it is time for Russia to take responsibility,” the Swedish Prime Minister said.

Answering journalists’ questions, Stefan Löfven noted that Sweden’s position on sanction pressure would remain unchanged. “The sanctions were imposed for certain reasons – the conflict in eastern Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea. As long as the reasons for these sanctions exist, the sanctions will be continued,” he summarized.
