President Petro Poroshenko pointed out that the first stage of the medical reform in the country had demonstrated the results, the patients received higher-quality services, and doctors – decent wages.

“As of the beginning of the year, 97% of public health institutions have finally switched to a new financing model despite the fierce resistance. The new model is when the money follows the patient. And the doctor, the best doctor, should receive higher wage, and the patient has an opportunity to choose a doctor,” the Head of State stressed during the participation in the “Aid is Nearby!” Forum.

“Right now I want to congratulate all of you, because about 25 million Ukrainians have already chosen this model. Now, we can finally outline the first positive results to those who scared us when we were launching the healthcare reform,” Petro Poroshenko added.

As an example, he spoke about communicating with the doctors in Bakhmut in the center of primary medical aid, where there are 38 doctors and 131 medical workers. According to the President, according to the old system of subventions, the salary of the nurse in Bakhmut was 4863 hryvnias, and the salary of the doctor was 7 thousand hryvnias. Now, after the start of the medical reform, a nurse who received 4800 hryvnias, now receives 7800 hryvnias.

“This is not a limit. This is a progress demonstrated in one year. These are the changes I want to see. This is the restoration of justice. A doctor who received 7 thousand hryvnias in Bakhmut now receives 17887 hryvnias. This is the attitude of society towards a doctor, the assessment of his work,” the Head of State noted.

According to him, this not a unique story. Such a situation takes place in Zhytomyr, Odesa region, Chernihiv, Kakhovka. “The doctors are working on the effective implementation of the medical reform at the primary level everywhere where there are communities. We are demonstrating these changes. A different attitude of the doctor towards people, towards profession. A different attitude of the patients to their doctor,” Petro Poroshenko said.

According to the President, 80% of the success of medical care lies in the primary level.
