President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko stresses the need to increase the presence of the warships of the North Atlantic Alliance in the Black Sea given Russia’s aggressive actions in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov and the seizure of Ukrainian ships and seamen. He noted this in an interview to Fox News.

“We must increase the presence of NATO ships in the Black Sea,” the President said. At the same time, he noted that “after the illegal annexation of Crimea, the balance of strength in the Black Sea was completely destroyed”.

“Putin uses Crimea to deploy missiles there, and the number of naval forces of the Russian Federation has been increased there. This creates an extremely dangerous situation and destabilizes the region,” the Head of State said. He did not exclude further possible aggressive actions of Russia in the Black Sea. “As it was with the attack on Ukrainian military boats,” Petro Poroshenko added.

“That is why the presence of NATO ships will be a factor of stabilization,” the Head of State said.

The President of Ukraine also stressed that the world coalition should speak from the position of strength with the Russian president. “If the world coalition is strong enough, if sanctions, that are effective enough, are continued, if all the instruments of pressure we have are used, a conversation with Putin may bring the result,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.
