A total of 62.8 percent of the public backs Turkey’s purchase of a Russian S-400 air defense system even though it has led to a crisis with Washington, according to a recent survey conducted on 9,000 people by the Areda polling company.

While 15.3 percent say Ankara must withdraw from the purchase, 21.9 percent say they have no opinion on the issue.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Wednesday repeated that the purchase of the Russian missiles was a “done deal.”

However, Washington recently conveyed a strong message to its NATO ally threatening economic sanctions over the S-400 purchase.

The US has also made moves to gradually cut Turkey out of the partnership of F-35 stealth jet production.
