Automotive sales drop more than 45 pct in first 8 months: report

Automobile and light commercial vehicle sales in Turkey dropped more than 45 percent in the first eight months over the same period last year, according to a recent statement from the Automotive Distributors Association (ODD).

A total of 440,428 units were sold from January through August of 2018, plunging to 239,317 this year, the Diken news website reported on Tuesday.

Turkey survived a currency crisis in the summer of 2018, with the national currency seeing a record low against foreign currencies.

On Jan. 1, the lira’s value was 5.30 against the US dollar, while on Tuesday it stood at 5.75 to the dollar.
