On July 10, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the Boryspil multiprofile hospital for intensive care in Kyiv region. A series of violations and inconsistencies with normative requirements have been registered in its activity and sanitation conditions. Many rooms are not renovated. And among those visited by the Head of State, the therapeutics department and dining facility are in the worst conditions. These are obsolete buildings that require major renovations. In addition, the patient capacity of the institution is not enough.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy talked to the patients of the hospital. Local residents complained about the hours-long queues, sometimes – the refusal of doctors to provide services because of low wages, lack of normal conditions, problems with the quality of insulin and drugs, etc.

“I saw the conditions in the hospital. And now I see renovations of your premises – this is the city council, which is probably more important than the main Boryspil hospital. Because the conditions of premises here are better,” the Head of State said during a meeting with the officials of the region in the Boryspil City Council building. According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, for example, in the therapeutics department, 6 people are placed within 9 square meters.

Chief physician Oleksandr Shchur told that the tender for the construction of a new hospital complex had been held, but due to the lack of financing, the process had been delayed.

“What do I think about this? In 2020 there will be local elections. If you do not build it in 2020, no one will vote for you,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, addressing the mayor of the city.

The President instructed the new Kyiv RSA Head to convene all officials and chief physician to work out a plan to build the new Boryspil hospital in a year. The President also stressed that he would apply for the dismissal of all those who would impede that process.

The Head of State urged the chief physician: “I ask you to stop showing people where you have made renovations. And do everything possible to keep people in normal conditions during renovations”.
