Turkish police detain judge purged after 2016 failed coup

Büşra Taşkıran, a former judge who was dismissed from her job in the aftermath of a 2016 failed coup attempt in Turkey and currently a journalist, was detained on Tuesday, according to local media.

Büşra Taşkıran, a former judge who was dismissed from her job in the aftermath of a 2016 failed coup attempt in Turkey and currently a journalist, was detained on Tuesday, according to local media.

She had previously spent eight months, eight days in pretrial detention on terrorism charges.

After her dismissal she embarked on a career in journalism, launching a YouTube channel, KHK TV, to raise awareness about the sufferings of purged civil servants. She also wrote pieces for Euronews Turkish service.

Turkey dismissed some 140,000 public servants after the coup attempt due to alleged affiliation with terrorist groups.

The reason behind Taşkıran’s detention has not yet been disclosed.
