“Five years of Russian aggression is more than enough to make the most important conclusion about our future. Ukraine will either become a powerful state, a regional leader, a member of the EU and NATO, or Ukraine will be brought back by force to the Russian empire, to a stall, under the yoke of Moscow, brought back to the status of the colony of the Russian Empire or the Soviet Union,” President Poroshenko noted during his participation in the youth forum: “The opinion of the youth is important. Prospects for joining NATO and the EU” in Kyiv region.

“Protecting the eastern border of Europe, Ukraine is already making a major contribution to European security,” he said, emphasizing that the given fact was recognized by all international partners and “they pay tribute to the role Ukraine plays today”.

“Let me remind you that in November 2017, during my meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, he confirmed that the NATO doors are now open for Ukraine. Do not believe “treason-seekers”. Do not believe when they say that we won’t be admitted to NATO as a belligerent state protecting our sovereignty from Russian aggression. This is simply not true,” the President said. He reminded that during his participation in the meeting of leaders of the member states of the North Atlantic Alliance, almost all of them emphasized the prospect of Ukraine’s membership in NATO.

“And everyone said that we should not just keep the door open, but we should accelerate Ukraine’s accession to NATO and facilitate the state’s Euro-Atlantic ambitions,” the President said.

“Partnership with the Alliance opens opportunities for strengthening our army. You all know in what terrible state the Armed Forces were at the beginning of foreign aggression. The army was robbed and demotivated, betrayed, full of FSS agents, disoriented on threats,” Petro Poroshenko noted. He emphasized that after becoming President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief, he had determined the first priority of the revival of the Armed Forces and the entire security and defense sector.

“We have not just created a new army, have not just brought up a new generation of young officers who have experienced the hell of battles in Donbas. At present, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are a solid iron fist that does not allow the enemy to move forward. Every year, every day, we reform our army, bringing it closer to the level of modern armies of the west world,” the President said.
