President Petro Poroshenko is convinced that it is by means of qualitative changes, economic growth of our state that we will be able to win the hearts and return the people who are now forced to live in the occupied territories.
During a speech at the Donetsk Regional Development Council, the Head of State said that before the meeting he had attended the frontline and talked with the 79th brigade. “Our fighters say that the attitude of locals towards our troops, our soldiers is getting better. They also say that people from the occupied territory come to them often and they have an opportunity to communicate with them constantly,” the President noted.
Petro Poroshenko noted that he had asked about the thoughts of the people coming from the temporarily occupied territory as they were under the influence of propaganda 24 hours a day. According to the servicemen, people from the occupied territories are disappointed in the “Russian world”. “They say: “Yes, we come to Mariupol and see how Mariupol changed: new roads, new lighting, new schools, new hospitals, renovated, new kindergartens. It is important. Imagine, soldiers there are walking on the streets without guns and they are shaved, without beards. And they do not grab people and take them “to the basement”, and there is no curfew, and they do not turn off the light … And they go to the shops not to “grab some booze” – as they say, but to buy ordinary goods,” the President said.
“Thus, through the views, the stories of an ordinary person, you understand what a huge chasm separates life in the occupied territory and life in the liberated territory, life in Mariupol,” he noted.
“And with such an example, we can today promote the Ukrainian idea in the occupied territories – I want to thank everyone who works in Mariupol for the implementation of this scenario. Thank you very much,” the Head of State emphasized.
He expressed conviction that it is in Mariupol that “courageous people persistently build the future of not only Mariupol, but also the entire Ukraine day by day”.
“A completely different picture – a picture of unity, a picture of the ability to overcome the greatest obstacles is being shown to hundreds of thousands, if not millions of those who are forced to live in the occupied territory. This is a picture of the great opportunities that we can realize and we will definitely realize them if we keep together,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.
The President especially emphasized that Mariupol was the city where confrontation was not an image or a symbol, but a daily reality.
“The 79th brigade is located less than two kilometers from the Russian occupation troops. And today one can make sure that there is a real war in the east of Ukraine. Two kilometers from the place of our stay in the south, the shelling of anti-tank weapons has just taken place. This is how Ukraine, the whole Ukraine, has been opposing Russian aggression for the last five years,” he stated.
