President on the priorities in the development of transport infrastructure of Donetsk region: Roads, railways and launch of the Mariupol airport

During his participation in the Donetsk Regional Development Council President Petro Poroshenko stressed that the development of transport infrastructure of Donetsk region was a priority.

“Today, I instruct the Chief of the General Staff, the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Infrastructure and the RSA Head to work on the issue of launching the airport of the city of Mariupol. Of course, we must provide security. Of course, we must protect ourselves from sabotage and reconnaissance groups. Of course, we must ensure protection from the means of anti-aircraft attack of the enemy. But I think that today is a good time for that,” the President said.

The President also noted the importance of upgrading and electrifying the region’s railroad. Negotiations on this issue are being conducted with the EU. “Upon completion, we will bring Intercity closer to Mariupol. For me it is a matter of principle and a challenge,” Petro Poroshenko stressed. According to him, it will improve contacts between people and increase opportunities for tourism development.

Also, according to the President, work is underway and funds are provided for the road construction of the region. “The RSA Head can confirm that we have set a priority to build roads to Mariupol, which will connect with Zaporizhia, Berdyansk,” he said.

“These are the right priorities,” the President added.
