Turkey’s Education Ministry on Thursday announced that 301,878 books published by faith-based Gülen movement followers or Gülen-linked publishing houses have been collected from public libraries and destroyed since a 2016 coup attempt, according to the Diken news website.

Turkey accuses the movement of orchestrating the coup, although it strongly denies any involvement.

The ministry made the announcement upon a request from Esin Kara, a Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) deputy who submitted a parliamentary question.

The ministry also answered a parliamentary question from Republican People’s Party (CHP) deputy Servet Ünsal, stating that 2,284 educational institutions affiliated with the Gülen movement have been shut down since the coup.
