Volodymyr Zelenskyy: We want to change the attitude of the state towards sports and athletes

The President handed over State Awards to Ukraine national under-20 football team, who had won the World Cup in Poland.

On July 16, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska visited the State Enterprise Olympic Educational and Sports Center Koncha Zaspa. The President handed over State Awards to Ukraine national under-20 football team, who had won the World Cup in Poland. Also, the Head of State awarded the gold medalists of the 2nd European Games, where Ukraine took the third place.

“I am proud to live with you in one country at the same time. The state did not do enough for you, athletes. We want to to change the attitude to you and to the sport,” the President said.

Also, the President noted that after arriving at Koncha Zaspa he received information about small scholarships of Ukrainian athletes. Volodymyr Zelenskyy promised to solve this problem.

“I know that you have very small sports scholarships. We will increase them. Definitely we will help you. Speak about problems – we will solve them”, – he emphasized.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his wife got acquainted with the infrastructure of an educational and sports complex, in particular, visited halls of gymnastics, weightlifting and Greco-Roman wrestling.

The Head of State also got acquainted with the plans for reconstruction and technical re-equipment of the complex game hall, construction of specialized modern sleeping corps that would meet the needs of athletes with disabilities as well as got acquainted with a specialized Olympic Swimming Complex in the territory of the Olympic Sports Center.

The President of Ukraine also got acquainted with the living conditions of athletes in the hostel on the territory of the complex. In addition, during a conversation with the General Director of the Olympic Educational and Sports Center Koncha Zaspa Andriy Krylyuk and the Olympic champion Oleg Vernyayev, the Head of State promised to assist in the allocation of housing to those athletes who need it.
