A video that appeared on Turkish social media showed that since 2010, the pro-government Yeni Şafak daily has reported 71 times on the Turkish government’s quest for a domestically produced automobile, the TR724 news website reported on Sunday.

The video, prepared by the Yol TV online news channel, brings together a timeline of every Turkish-made car-related news story published by the pro-government daily since 2010.

Some of the reports in the video claimed that the automobile would be on the road in 2017 and that it would rival Tesla.

The video was circulated after Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank tweeted a picture of himself with two covered-up automobiles on Friday.

Developing a domestic car has long been a dream of Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who has repeatedly called on Turkish businesspeople to undertake such an initiative, particularly bringing the issue up during election campaigns.
