President Petro Poroshenko fired Oleg Gladkovskyi from the post of the First Deputy Chairman of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. It was stated by him at the Regional Development Council in Mykolaiv region.

“I want to speak frankly about one thing. As you know, last week there was a journalistic investigation based on the leakage (of information – ed.) from the law enforcement agencies regarding possible abuses in the sphere of defense procurement. It caused a great public resonance. Society wants and has the right to know the truth. Everyone wants to know the truth. As President, I also want to know the truth. Therefore, all conditions will be created for this,” Petro Poroshenko noted.

“This morning I have signed a decree dismissing Oleg Gladkovskyi from the post of the First Deputy Chairman of the NSDC. He is also fired from the post of the Head of the interagency commission for the policy of military-technical cooperation and export control,” the President informed.

“This is my first decision,” he added.

Petro Poroshenko noted: “The President is not a court of course. And my statement is not a court sentence. However, my task and duty is to create all conditions for people to believe in honesty and impartiality of the objective investigation. For everyone to see that in such situations, if there is proof of guilt, posts, ties, surnames or the long-standing acquaintance with the President will not save anyone”.

“All are equal before the law. This is my principle,” the Head of State emphasized.

The President intends to discuss the issue of a maximum objective and comprehensive investigation with the leadership of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau.

“For several years, I have never allowed myself to address the leadership of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecution on any specific investigation. Never, for all years of existence (of these structures – ed.). Today, I do it for the first time. This is my second decision,” he said.

The Head of State said: “I publicly appeal to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau to investigate resonant publications and dot the i’s and cross the t’s. If anyone is guilty, he should be brought to justice. Those who worked conscientiously to strengthen defense capability should have an opportunity to defend their honest name. In the evening, I am planning to talk to the NABU leadership”.

The President emphasizes that NABU is a new anti-corruption body independent from the Ukrainian authorities – from the President, from the Government, from the Parliament. “It is as depoliticized as possible. And this is very important for public trust in the results of the investigation,” Petro Poroshenko said.

He recalled that a temporary investigative commission had been set up in the Verkhovna Rada to study that issue. “We are doing everything we can to ensure attention of the public and society to this issue, so that it meets the law and the requirements of anti-corruption policy,” the Head of State said.
