Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said in a statement condemning a double mosque attack in New Zealand on Friday that the attack is a new example of the global rise of racism and Islamophobia.

In the terrorist attack on Friday, 49 people were killed and at least 20 were injured during prayer in two mosques in New Zealand.

Officials said one man in his late 20s had been charged with murder and that two explosive devices were found attached to a vehicle that they had stopped.

An account believed to belong to one of the attackers featured a link to an 87-page manifesto filled with anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim ideas, CNN said.
