President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko emphasized the support of Ukraine as a sovereign, independent and democratic country, which is gradually integrating into the European Union. The Head of State said this in an interview to ICTV channel.

“First of all, we see a strong support for Ukraine from our partners and allies,” the President said and reminded that recently the EU-Ukraine mini-summit was held in Brussels with the participation of the entire leadership of the European Union.

“This is a unique unprecedented format. And this is the format of Ukraine’s support. Continuation of the course of integration into the EU and NATO, which was initiated by my team five years ago,” Petro Poroshenko stated.

The President also noted that President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker and President of the European Council Donald Tusk had participated in the Ukraine-EU mini-summit. According to him, the leaders of the European Union supported the provision of a second tranche of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine, as well as a special project initiated by the Ukrainian side to support the Azov coast of Ukraine, the development of Mariupol and Berdyansk, railway electrification, road construction, construction of facilities for internally displaced persons.

The President informed that during the talks it was agreed to support the sectoral integration of Ukraine into the European Union, in particular in the energy and digital sectors. In particular, this concerns the abolition of roaming in the EU for Ukrainian citizens and the introduction of e-governance, small and medium business development projects, bank lending, environmental cooperation and much more.

The Head of State also noted that President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani had taken part in the Ukraine-EU mini-summit. “And you have seen resolutions adopted by the European Parliament with a strong condemnation of radical actions of extremist organizations that tried to undermined the elections in Ukraine,” he said.

“I want to thank Ukrainians who said a resolute “no” to extremist actions. It is extremely important for us to conduct the elections impeccably. For the people of Ukraine to have an opportunity to freely express their will and for the state to protect the choice of its citizens. It is a prerequisite for continuing our journey to the European Union and NATO,” Petro Poroshenko added.

Speaking of the policy of Ukraine’s support by the EU leaders, the President said: “This policy of supporting Ukraine is of a very high level in the world. Ukrainians will forever remember the words of President Donald Tusk: Europe does not exist without Ukraine and Ukraine has a future in Europe”. He added that “it is extremely important when such words are said by the European Union leader – the President of the European Council. And this is the result of our work carried out over the past five years”.
