Leila Khaled, a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), on Monday paid a visit to Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) deputy Leyla Güven, who has been on a hunger strike for more than five months, the Artı Gerçek news website reported.
Khaled visited Güven at her home in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır, in the company of HDP deputy Saliha Aydeniz and activists from the Kurdish political movement.
“I’m glad to meet you. You are strong, and we want you to keep fighting alongside us. We’ll be stronger if you stay with us,” Khaled said to Güven while holding her hands.
Khaled also passed on greetings from PFLP Secretary-General Ahmet Sadat, who has been in jail in Israel for 13 years, saying that hundreds of their people have also been on hunger strikes since April 8.
Güven went on a hunger strike in November 2018 in protest of the “isolation” of jailed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan.
Later on she was joined by several other HDP deputies and Kurdish rights activists.
