Terror victim’s father receives suspended sentence for insulting Erdoğan

After the incident, the deadliest terrorist attack in modern Turkish history, several news reports claimed that the security forces failed to take necessary precautions despite having prior knowledge of the attack.

Mustafa Doğan, the father of a 2015 terrorist attack victim, was given a suspended 10-month sentence on charges of insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in a statement to the press during trial proceedings, the Birgün daily reported.

In October 2015 two members of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) blew themselves up in the middle of a crowd largely composed of leftists and Kurdish party supporters, killing 109 civilians and injuring 500 others.

After the incident, the deadliest terrorist attack in modern Turkish history, several news reports claimed that the security forces failed to take necessary precautions despite having prior knowledge of the attack.

“We don’t trust the judiciary in this country. The killers of our loved ones in the October terrorist attack is the ruling party, the fascist [Recep] Tayyip Erdoğan,” Doğan told reporters in 2018 following a court hearing.
