30 injured as turbulence hits Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul to New York

The prominent flight company expressed its regrets about the unfortunate experience and said it would closely monitor the health status of injured passengers.

A Turkish Airlines passenger jet travelling from Istanbul to New York hit severe turbulence on Saturday as it was approaching its destination over the Atlantic Ocean with 30 people suffering minor injuries before it landed safely, a statement released by the flight company said.

“The Boeing 777 type aircraft, which had taken off from Istanbul with 326 passengers and 18 crew members, landed safely at the airport at 5.35 p.m. Saturday, after experienced turbulence,” Turkish Airlines said.

One flight attendant suffered a broken leg, according to Steve Coleman, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the area’s airports, bus terminals, bridges and tunnels. Others have suffered bumps, bruises and cuts, Coleman said.

The prominent flight company expressed its regrets about the unfortunate experience and said it would closely monitor the health status of injured passengers and make resources available for them.
