At the meeting on nuclear energy development and enhancing nuclear safety during the working visit to Khmelnytskyi region, President Petro Poroshenko noted that the implementation of the project on the production of equipment and construction of small modular reactors in Ukraine would be an impetus for the new technological development of the country.

“In 2018, Energoatom signed a memorandum of cooperation with the US company Holtec International on the use of small SMR-160 modular reactors in Ukraine. The memorandum outlined the companies’ plans for the construction of small modular reactors at the Ukrainian NPPs and subsequent localization of the production of equipment for SMR-160 at the Ukrainian enterprises,” Petro Poroshenko said.

The Head of State stressed: “The implementation of such a project will mean a new level of opportunities, create tens of thousands of new high-paid jobs. And one more important position is the impetus for the rapid technological development of our state”.

The President added that he often advises not to fear raising the ambition level at the meetings: “Together, we set high and ambitious tasks. Then the desired will be achieved”.

“I am glad that I have like-minded people among Ukrainian nuclear power engineers. You declared an ambitious goal – to enter a pool of countries engaged in the production of nuclear reactors. Fifteen years ago, we could not dream of it. And Ukraine has everything for that,” Petro Poroshenko stressed.
