After former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu harshly criticized President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his ruling party, a speech to be given by his wife, medical doctor Sare Davutoğlu, at a Turkish university was canceled without explanation, the T24 news website reported on Wednesday.

The conference on Islamic medical practices was scheduled for Wednesday at Medipol University, one of the founders of which is Fahrettin Koca, Turkey’s incumbent health minister.

According to the report, posters advertising the conference were taken down by university workers hours after the release of the former prime minister’s 15-page statement slamming the Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) economic policies and media restrictions and detailing the damage he said it had done to the separation of powers and Turkey’s institutions.

Turkish media recently ran several reports claiming Davutoğlu had been working on forming a new party to challenge the AKP.
