President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko stresses that, along with his team, he will defend the continuation of Ukraine’s course to membership in the EU and NATO and prolongation of sanctions against Russia until the full implementation of the Minsk agreements. The Head of State will continue to defend the Ukrainian army, the stability of the country’s financial and banking system and other achievements of the last five years.

“Our team must defend the achievements that we, together with the Ukrainian people, have gained in extremely difficult conditions over these 5 years. Defend the European and Euro-Atlantic strategy, those principles, those goals, those obvious frontiers that we have reached over these 5 years. And that, unfortunately, are now threatened. Our team will defend them,” Petro Poroshenko said during the statement after the end of the voting in the presidential elections in Ukraine.

“Our team will defend the course for membership in the European Union and NATO,” he also emphasized and noted that only in this strongest and most powerful security organization in the world we can guarantee the security of Ukraine and every citizen, receive a reliable protection from Russia as the country-aggressor.

According to him, his team will also defend the visa-free regime. “Because some members of the Constitutional Court quickly reoriented to a new government and are now planning to declare electronic declarations unconstitutional. And this was a condition of the visa-free regime. We will defend the visa-free regime, because this is the right gained by my people, which we have achieved over the past 5 years,” Petro Poroshenko stressed.

He emphasized that he would continue to defend the Ukrainian army from the attacks within the country, from any attempts to diminish the historical significance of its heroism. “For some people do not understand how far we have gone over these 5 years in ensuring state defense,” the President added.

“Our team will defend the Ukrainian language. And it’s not just what we’ve already done – quotas, songs, movies, radio, books. If the Verkhovna Rada adopts the law on the language next week, I will be happy and proud that I, as President of Ukraine, will be able to sign it. And I will definitely do so,” the Head of State said.

Also, Petro Poroshenko said: “Today is Palm Sunday and the Lord’s entrance into Jerusalem. I celebrated it with my family praying in St. Michael’s Cathedral. Our team will protect the Orthodox Church of Ukraine from revenge. We will not allow this revenge. Because when we took off the yoke of the Russian church and Russia from the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, this was another solid foundation of our state-building, our spirituality. And, by the way, we still expect apologies for “thermos”.

The President also noted that he and his team would defend the stability of the financial and banking system. “For it is already obvious that they plan to return PrivatBank to Kolomoyskyi for the support during the elections. The abolition of its nationalization will create risks for tens of millions of depositors, Ukrainians. And we will defend tens of millions of Ukrainians,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.

“In addition, it will trigger crisis in our relations with international financial organizations and, as a result, hryvnia’s fall and a new economic crisis. We will definitely not allow that,” he also said.

“Our team will defend a powerful international coalition in support of Ukraine that we have been carefully creating for five years. And if the Minsk agreements are not implemented, including by Ukraine, our team will defend the continuation of the regime of sanctions against Russia as the only mechanism to ensure the commitments undertaken to de-occupy Donbas and liberate Crimea,” the Head of State emphasized.

“Our team will oppose the Kremlin’s plans to form a loyal majority during parliamentary elections. And this is another reason why I must stay in politics and defend the state,” he added.

The President said that he and his team would defend everything done over these five years. In particular, decentralization, inclusive education, new Ukrainian school, rural medicine reform, e-procurement, contests in the civil service, energy independence of our state and energy efficiency.

“And I am proud of what our team has done, because our team is the whole Ukraine and we did it due to your efforts! If I did not have your support, support of all Ukrainians, nothing would be achieved,” Petro Poroshenko summed up.
