At present, one cannot speak of mitigating quarantine measures, especially in view of the Easter holidays, when there is a threat of crowds and many Ukrainians return home to celebrate. Such agreement was reached at a traditional meeting chaired by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on combating coronavirus.

In addition, the World Health Organization also urged not to mitigate quarantine measures, the government said.

“Quarantine is what saves us. Because we have introduced it in time, the spread of coronavirus is not so fast. We see that many Ukrainians have a responsible attitude towards quarantine, although this is not easy. We must be responsible for the people and do everything to make their lives easier at this time,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal informed that programs of payment for the people with the lowest income had been developed for this purpose.

“Yesterday we started to make additional payments to pensioners who are over 80. Next week we will pay additional UAH 1,000 to those who have a pension below UAH 5,000. And by the end of April, all such pensioners will have received this money,” Denys Shmyhal said.

In addition, pursuant to the instruction of the President, the government has classified the categories of population that will be assisted. These are unemployed, low-income families with children, SMEs.

“It is good that we have already developed the tools and calculated the funding to help Ukrainians. Now we need to move as fast as possible so that people really get the money and feel relief,” the President stressed.
