“One shouldn’t think that sanctions are continued automatically by themselves. Sanctions are continued because Ukraine is capable of taking the position of consolidation of society and demanding the Russian Federation to restore our sovereignty,” President Petro Poroshenko noted in the Freedom of Speech program on ICTV channel.

The Head of State noted that sanctions should be continued in June next time. “And the decision of the EU Council and the United States will depend on the consolidated position of Ukraine, on the decisiveness of the Ukrainian authorities in defending their sovereignty,” Petro Poroshenko said.

According to him, every time Russian propaganda says that it will be the last prolongation of sanctions. “And every time the diplomatic success of the Ukrainian authorities ensures the consolidation of the whole world,” the President said.

“Today it depends precisely on the position of Ukraine, which has become a real subject of foreign policy. From the very beginning we have taken the position “nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine”. And today Ukraine’s opinion is decisive,” the Head of State emphasized.

The President together with the Ukrainian diplomats and the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people have jointly formed the platform for the liberation of Crimea, which contains a large number of components. “The first is the expansion of sanctions against the Russian Federation in connection with the occupation of Crimea. The second position is the “Azov package” of sanctions for the immediate de-occupation of the Kerch Strait and the Sea of Azov, the restoration of freedom of navigation,” he said.

Also, according to him, Ukraine makes efforts on the judicial processes, including in the international court of the United Nations against the Russian Federation in connection with violation of a number of UN conventions. He noted that the work on the relevant lawsuits would be expanded.
