Turkish official rejects Erdoğan calling Iran’s Soleimani martyr

During his phone call with Rouhani, Erdoğan expressed his regret for the loss of Soleimani and calling him a martyr, according to the Russian news agency RT.

A Turkish official said on Sunday that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan did not call slain Iranian General Qassem Soleimani a martyr during a phone call with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, TRT World reported.

“Erdoğan offered condolences to Rouhani over military commander Qasem Soleimani’s assassination due to his official post and did not use ‘martyr’ to describe him,” TRT World said, citing an unnamed Turkish official.

During his phone call with Rouhani, Erdoğan expressed his regret for the loss of Soleimani and calling him a martyr, according to the Russian news agency RT.

“Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in a phone conversation with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, said: “The absence of martyr Soleimani is deeply upsetting. Iranian people, I am aware of your and Ali Khamenei’s anger,” Iranian Embassy in Turkey also tweeted on Saturday.
