In the framework of opening the land market in Ukraine, it is necessary to establish the possibility of owning land of not more than 10 thousand hectares. The initiative was put forward by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his communication with the farmers in Krasna Slobidka village, Obukhov district, Kyiv region.

“There was a question of concentration. MPs initially introduced a rate of more than 200,000 hectares. I agree, that’s a lot. The committee has reached the figure of 20 thousand. Let’s make it from 1 to 10 thousand hectares and consider it on the committee. We will suggest a figure, reduce concentration,” the Head of State said.

In addition, the President said that after the adoption of the law on land reform there would be a certain preparatory stage for the full launch of the market.

“The moratorium can be lifted only after the law is approved and signed. And then you still need to work with the registers to keep everything clean. And the market can start operating only a year after, in the autumn. Because there should be a long preparation for the sale of land,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.

The Head of State also assured the farmers that fears of raiding after the introduction of the land market were groundless as the state would protect the owners.

“People should not be afraid that someone will take the land, we will protect people. The issues with the sale to foreigners were resolved – the amendments were made,” the President emphasized.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy specified that the issue of sale of land to foreigners would be submitted to a nationwide referendum after the opening of the market.
