President: Every corrupt official must be held accountable, regardless of surname, position and sphere of activity
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that prosecutors had already completed two stages of requalification and confirmed their professional abilities and skills.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that for the first time since independence, a real reform of the prosecutor’s office had been started in Ukraine. He expressed confidence that after requalification of the prosecutors, the country would receive a fair, public-oriented prosecutor’s office, which would serve as an example for other law enforcement agencies.
Speaking at the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine on the eve of the Prosecutor’s Day, the Head of State noted that until now the word “prosecutor” in Ukraine had been associated not with the rule of law, but with expensive cars, villas, yachts and jewellery.
“The strategic task of the Prosecutor General and his team is to change this once and for all. I am sure you will do it well. This process has already begun. In my personal opinion, for the first time since independence, reforms are not imitated. Real changes are taking place at all levels of the prosecutor’s office,” the President said.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that prosecutors had already completed two stages of requalification and confirmed their professional abilities and skills.
“I sincerely wish each of you to complete the final stage of requalification decently and prove your integrity, professional competence and ethics. And then Ukraine will finally get a fair, public-oriented prosecutor’s office that will serve as an example for all other law enforcement agencies,” the President stressed.
According to the Head of State, another priority for the prosecutors is the fight against corruption. “Every corrupt official must be held accountable, regardless of surname, position and sphere of activity. Be sure – as President of Ukraine, I am your ally in this difficult struggle,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Congratulating the staff of the Prosecutor General’s Office on their professional holiday, the President added that they still had a lot of hard and responsible work ahead, and wished the prosecutors “strength, will and unbroken spirit”.
For his part, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Ruslan Riaboshapka stressed that an increasing level of trust in the prosecutor’s office was currently observed.
“But I believe that in the near future, perhaps in a year, we will be able to brag about a completely different prosecutor’s office and absolutely different prosecutors, people with other values,” the Prosecutor General summarized.
