The eighth meeting of the High Level Strategic Council was held under the chairmanship of the Presidents of Ukraine and Turkey

The eighth meeting of the High Level Strategic Council was held in Kyiv under the chairmanship of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Opening the event, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that he had held a fruitful and constructive meeting with Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The Presidents discussed enhancement of cooperation in various fields, including the increase of trade turnover, signing the FTA, as well as energy cooperation, reforms in Ukraine and investment.

“We talked about everything: roads, housing and enterprises. We need to take a closer look at transport infrastructure,” the President of Ukraine noted, commenting on the attraction of Turkish investments in the Ukrainian economy.

Minister of Infrastructure Vladyslav Krykliy called on the Turkish party to increase investment in Ukrainian projects.

“We would like the cooperation with the Turkish party in the road sector to be expanded. We also understand that there is an interest in the port industry. We will increase the number of maritime concession projects and look forward to the participation of Turkish companies,” he said.

The importance of diversifying energy sources was emphasized, including the supply of gas through the TANAP gas pipeline and the supply of liquefied gas.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan noted the growth of trade and investment volume between Ukraine and Turkey.

“We need to strengthen strategic partnership in the economic field,” the President of Ukraine said.

The parties also discussed the situation in Donbas and steps taken to return the detained persons and achieve peace.

“It was fundamentally important for us to have the support of Turkey in the issue of maintaining sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.
