Kırklareli man detained for insulting Erdogan on social media

A Kirklareli man, identified only with his initials T.B., was detained for insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on social media.

Media reported Tuesday that T.B. was detained at his home in Kirklareli’s Kavakli district due to social media posts he said to be posted insulting Erdogan, a charge that carries a sentence of between one and four years.

The number of investigations launched on charges of insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was 20,539 in 2017, Bilgi University Professor Yaman Akdeniz told media earlier. 6,033 of such investigations made it to the courts last year, Akdeniz added.
