President Petro Poroshenko took part in the presentation of the construction project of the Syretsko-Pecherska line of the Kyiv subway from the station “Syrets” to the neighborhood of Vynohradar.

The Head of State noted the results of the Kyiv subway. “Since the opening of the subway, over 20 billion passengers used its services. This is not just a lot, this is almost three times the entire population of the planet,” Petro Poroshenko said. He thanked the staff, the builders and everyone involved in the creation and operation of the subway.

“In the history of the Kyiv subway, it completely stopped working only once. And we remember very well this date – from February 18 to 20, 2014, at a time when Russian aggression against Ukraine began 5 years ago. Aggression caused heavy losses for Ukraine, for the people and economy. Of course, it also inhibited the plans for the development of the Kyiv subway,” the Head of State stressed.

According to the President, the Kyiv subway is often attacked in the hybrid war. “Only in 2014, there were more than 200 messages about the bomb threat in the subway. But I emphasize that the attempts to paralyze the work of the subway and the city’s life failed. We have learned to resist the aggression both on the battlefield and in Kyiv,” he added.

The Head of State stressed that, despite the war, he had initiated decentralization, a reform that already brings fruit. “The results of decentralization can be very simply described. In 2013, part of the budget of the Kyiv community – both general and special fund – amounted to 16.5 billion hryvnias. In 2018 – it is already 57 billion hryvnias. And in 2019 – far beyond 60. This is a real opportunity for the community to decide how to spend funds. Together with the powers and resources, the central government gave the community of Kyiv responsibility. And today we already see convincing results in urban infrastructure development projects,” he said.

The President noted that the work on the Podilsko-Voskresensky Bridge has been intensified. The Head of State discussed with Vitali Klitschko, mayor of Kyiv, the construction of the subway to Troieshchyna. According to the Kyiv mayor, the work on the bridge connection with Troieshchyna is currently underway.

“Construction and reconstruction of overpasses and the bypass road started. This was long-awaited by the residents of Kyiv and Kyiv region.

“The restoration of the construction of the subway in Kyiv is crucially important. The joint financing of this project is held at the expense of the state and the community. These are the joint efforts of the President, Government, Verkhovna Rada and city community headed by the mayor,” he said.

According to the President, last year 2.5 billion UAH were allocated. This year it is planned to allocate another 1.5 billion UAH. “The total cost of commissioning the stations “Mostytska” and “Prospect Pravdy” is estimated at 6 billion UAH. We already know clearly that this project will be funded by joint efforts of the state and the city,” he emphasized.

According to him, these two stations would be used by more than 150 thousand people every day, therefore the realization of this project is extremely topical. “Vitali Volodymyrovych, I think our cooperation, our effective interaction allows us to realize the most ambitious plans of the Ukrainian capital,” the President said.

The mayor of Kyiv, in turn, noted that the city was a leader in the construction of roads, kindergartens, schools and parks. He stressed that “transport infrastructure is one of the key priorities in the development of the city”. Vitali Klitschko said that last year 830 km of roads had been repaired and built, and it was planned to exceed the given figure by more than 1000 km in 2019.

The mayor of Kyiv thanked the President of Ukraine for his attention to the infrastructure projects of the capital and emphasized the importance of the construction of new subway stations.

“The construction of the Kyiv subway is a key priority for us. And it is very important that the Head of State also draws attention to such projects. Thank you very much, Petro Oleksiyovych, for your help,” Vitali Klitschko noted.

The mayor of Kyiv informed that the opening of the two stations was scheduled for December 2021. According to him, this year the construction of the Podilsko-Voskresensky Bridge will be continued. At the same time, Kyiv needs to repair 75 bridges and this requires additional resources.
