President of Ukraine, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko congratulated the Security Service of Ukraine on the 27th anniversary of its creation.

The Head of State awarded 15 officials of the Security Service of Ukraine, including two servicemen captured by Russian FSB officials in the Kerch Strait at the end of the last year. The awards were given to their mothers.

“As President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief, I have the honor to congratulate you on the 27th anniversary of the establishment of the Security Service of Ukraine. All these years you’ve been guarding Ukraine. Therefore, Russia, carefully preparing the aggression against an independent sovereign state, did everything to weaken the Service. Unfortunately, due to the short-term thinking of many politicians and officials, and through bold betrayal during the tenure of Yanukovych, it managed to reduce the readiness of the entire security and defense sector to reject aggression, encroaching on national security, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.

“But we withstood, the state, the Ukrainian people. The past five years have become a turning point in the history of the Ukrainian state. We can surely say that we have started a new chapter in it,” he added.

The Head of State stressed that the creation of the army, the association with the European Union and the free trade area, the restored economic growth, the Tomos and autocephaly of the Ukrainian church recognized by the universal Orthodoxy, Ukrainian language on radio and television, Ukrainian book and cinematography, decentralization, many other reforms radically changed Ukraine. “We have reasons to say that we have begun a new countdown of our modern Ukrainian history. We are going our Ukrainian way. Our path leads to membership in the European Union and NATO. This direction of our movement is defined in the Constitution and its implementation is now the duty of all branches of power without exception,” the President noted.

The Head of State reminded that 27 officials of the Security Service had given their lives in the fight against Russian aggression for freedom, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
