The team of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy worked out a bill aimed at enhancing lustration. It was stated by the President in his video address on July 11. According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, lustration should be related to the persons holding office of President of Ukraine, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Prosecutor General, Head of the Security Service, Chairmen of the Antimonopoly Committee and the State Property Fund, Heads of the State Fiscal Service and the Customs Service, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council and heads of the defense enterprises from February 23, 2014 to May 19, 2019.

Lustration should also cover people’s deputies of Ukraine and government members of this period.

“We are accused that we want to abolish lustration. To make everyone understand that we are not going to abolish lustration, we offer to enhance it,” the Head of State said.

According to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the given bill only provides a public assessment of the work of the mentioned individuals. He also expressed confidence that they will receive a fair legal assessment in the future.

The Head of State noted that he had been stirred into such a decision by the things he had seen in the course of his presidency.

“I communicate with officials of different levels on a daily basis and realize: it is a hopeless diagnosis. White and blue, red and white, orange, burgundy, pink – in fact, they are all the same. All of them do not care,” the President emphasized.

“I think the least we can do now is to permanently deprive them all of the opportunities to participate in state governance,” the President added.
