The President also believes it would be useful if the debates took place in several stages.

“I am very pleased that Volodymyr Zelensky finally accepted my proposal to hold a debate. This is absolutely necessary, because it is not a show, it is not a performance. This is the right of Ukrainian citizens to get complete and comprehensive information on the programs, plans of candidates. To have an opportunity to ask questions and get answers to determine the future of the state for years, perhaps for decades to come,” President Petro Poroshenko said after delivering the medical tests for alcohol and drug use at the medical center at NSC “Olimpiyskyi”.

The Head of State noted that despite a strange form of invitation, he came to the stadium. “As far as I am concerned, Volodymyr Oleksandrovych hasn’t come: “I came – you didn’t”. But I firmly believe that he will get up the nerve, come here and the debate will take place. Especially since this is a requirement of the Ukrainian law,” Petro Poroshenko added.

The President also believes it would be useful if the debates took place in several stages. According to him, the first stage is a debate on the position on the key authority of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief on the program of strengthening defense and security; the second stage is a debate on foreign policy; the third stage is a debate on the protection of the constitutional rights and freedoms of Ukrainian citizens.

“Another argument is that almost 80% of Ukrainians support and demand the debates. And certainly not a single candidate should ignore this opinion. That is why today I provide the implementation of all the necessary steps for the debates to take place,” the Head of State remarked. In his view, the debates should take place as soon as possible.

“We must stop the exchange of opinions through social networks and let Ukrainian citizens, on the basis of the full information they receive, decide on their vote on April 21, 2019,” the President summarized.
