President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko held a phone conversation with the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The Head of State thanked the President of Turkey for the unwavering support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Petro Poroshenko noted that the conversation was taking place on the eve of the presidential elections in Russia, which it intended to hold in the temporarily occupied Crimea.

The President of Ukraine urged his Turkish colleague not to recognize the results of illegitimate elections, as well as to refrain from the participation of Turkish citizens in their monitoring on the temporarily occupied peninsula. “Crimea is Ukraine. And we count on traditional support from Turkey,” the Head of State said.

During the conversation, the parties agreed on a timetable of subsequent contacts at the highest level, including for the purpose of holding the seventh meeting of the high-level Strategic Council between Ukraine and Turkey.

The interlocutors also called for the finalization of negotiations on the free trade area agreement between the two countries as soon as possible.
